Course Overview

Photography is an art form that relies heavily on the creative and technical use of lenses. "Lenses At Length" is a comprehensive class designed for photographers of all levels who want to understand the most fundamental tool for controlling how an image turns out: the lens.

We will cover what the terminology on lenses means, how lens design choices affect your creative decisions, how to match the right lens to your purpose, and how to identify which features matter most for your style of photography.

What You’ll Learn

• Lens fundamentals: Focal length, maximum aperture, perspective distortion, and focusing motors
• Prime lenses: Chromatic aberration, sharpness, barrel distortion, flaring, and ghosting
• Zoom lenses: Convenience, framing, and atmospheric compression
• Specialty lenses: Macro, wide-angle, and fisheye lenses
• Newer lens features: Aspherical lens elements, upgraded focusing motors, firmware updates, and declicked aperture rings
